Q.: What did the farmer say when he lost his tractor?

A: "Where's my tractor?"

Today I am happy to report was the most successful hunting day of all!  The weather was excellent, I got a sunburn and there was just enough wind to keep the bugs off of us!  What a great day for treasure hunting.....

Our adventure starts at the back of the yard at the chicken coop.

First of all I hate chickens.  They smell and they cluck and poop on everything.  As you can see, we have two plastic chickens down at the chicken coop.  My 80 year old grandmother thought that we'd like those plastic planters that are shaped like hens because when you live on an acreage people think you like stuff like that.  People are wrong.

The only place real chickens belong is on my plate served with a nice dill sauce.  Yum!

There is an old Model T Ford behind the chicken coop in the trees.  That was my target for today.

I enrolled my trusty assistant (Kelly) to help me with dragging out the car.  We got the quad, trailer, chainsaw, shovels, the ol'Ace 250 Metal Detector and my new Pin Pointer.  A Pin Pointer is the magic wand of the metal detecting world.  After spending 20 minutes digging up a rusty nail a few weeks ago, I decided that I needed some specialized equipment.  It's almost like one of those airport detectors they sweep over you only it's shaped like a wand with a light on it and it vibrates and beeps when you "pin point" items.  It's an awesome tool!  It's been on backorder but after using it today, it was absolutely worth the wait.

Early on, we learned that the The Model T has some problems.  First of all it's very heavy, cumbersome, the doors are off and there are a few trees growing out of the frame.  We decided that it will be almost impossible to get out of the bushes and trees.  We looked around, folded our arms, assessed the situation and were about to go back to the house for a cold beverage.  I thought I would quickly scan the area and see if there was any hidden treasure under the years of grass, leaves and dirt.  I barely got the Ace turned on when all of a sudden, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP!  I'm actually getting good on this thing!  I'm beginning to be able to tell the size of the item and type of metals that we're detecting.  What did we find?  An axle off of an old wagon!  My trusty assistant Kelly started digging.  He managed to dig it out of the 100 years of dirt, leaves and tree roots.  He did manage to finally pick it up and put it into the trailer.  We decided to scan more of the area and found a heap of other things!  The ol' Ace was going crazy!  It was very exciting.  We found the axle then before we knew it, we found one of the front tires!  We scanned and scanned and after a multitude of other items, we finally found the other front tire!  It was a great feeling of accomplishment.  It really had the feel of an authentic archeological dig.  We're going to do some research on the wagon because we don't know how old it is or the make or model.  All we know is that it is very cool and we were thrilled to find it!

We're not sure what this is, anyone know?

We are going to check the part number to see if we can figure this guy out.

Assorted items.

More nails!

This stuff is going into Kelly's NFG pile in the scrap bin.

We don't know what this is either!  Anyone know?

Nuts, bolts and screws.

Items

Just a weird collection of things!

Here's another mystery item.  This is a big hunk of plastic though so I'm thinking it's not worth thousands.

So there you have it!  The most successful treasure hunting day of all!  We could have been down there all day finding farm treasure!  There is another axle down there from some unknown piece of machinery that we found but after two hours of digging and pulling, we decided to leave it for another day.  It was very exciting to find the wagon.  We aren't sure what we're going to do with it yet but it's going to end up in the yard somewhere.

In the meantime, I'm going to do some research and try to figure out what we have found, the year it was made etc.  Research - Just another part of treasure hunting!

TTFN Friends!
